The River Charter School Board seeks dedicated and community-minded individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds—including parents, caregivers, and community members—who are passionate about supporting our schools and helping them thrive.

BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES
The Board is responsible for establishing broad policies and overseeing high-level decisions that affect the school, including:
- Supporting and monitoring the quality of the school program;
- Adopting policies to ensure that the school is run effectively, legally, and ethically;
- Overseeing the budget and financial health of the schools;
- Reviewing and approving policies and documents required by law, and by the schools’ charters; and
- Supporting efforts to secure resources for the schools’ long-term sustainability.
COMMITMENTS
Board members are expected to:
- attend monthly board meetings (typically Monday evenings);
- prepare for board meetings by reviewing materials in advance and actively engaging in discussions;
- Represent and advocate for River Charter Schools within the communities
- Be responsive to occasional phone or email communications.;
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for individuals who:
- Are committed to the mission, Project-Based Learning (PBL) model, and long-term success of River Charter Schools;
- Have a collaborative mindset and work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
- Are thoughtful, reliable, and willing to engage in governance and decision-making;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Prior board or professional leadership experience is helpful but not required. We strongly encourage families of students and community members with lived experience, local knowledge, and a passion for our schools to apply.
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
We are especially interested in individuals with experience or interest in:
- Finance
- Insurance/Risk Management
- Communications, Public Relations, or community outreach
- Fundraising for not-for-profit organizations
- Community organizing or engagement
- Residing or working in the Broderick/Bryte or Clarksburg communities
