In alignment with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), our Special Education program ensures students with disabilities receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) through individualized services and support.
We offer a continuum of services through an inclusive model, providing specialized supports based on each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Services are delivered in the general education classroom or through brief pull-out sessions in the Learning Center by a team of highly qualified specialists.
Our collaborative approach engages families, teachers, and outside providers to develop personalized plans that help each student thrive. At River Charter Schools, we believe every student deserves to feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
For more information, please contact Director of Special Education and Student Services Ashley Sanford at [email protected].
In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) and California law, River Charter Schools is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating children enrolled in our schools who may have disabilities and may require special education and related services. This includes children who are homeless or are wards of the State.
If your child has, or may have, a disability, we encourage you to contact Special Education Coordinator Ashley Sanford at [email protected]. All referrals are confidential.
Parents, legal guardians, and surrogate parents retain the right to refuse services and are protected by federal and state procedural safeguards.
Special education is a dynamic and evolving system of principles, practices, laws, and policies. Navigating these processes and collaborating with your school can sometimes feel overwhelming. If you have questions about special education or need support, we are here to help.
Families are encouraged to reach out to Special Education Coordinator Ashley Sanford at [email protected] for guidance and assistance. Additional resources are also available through our SELPA Parent Resources Page to support you in understanding your rights and navigating the special education process.
Procedural safeguards are the rights and protections for parents and students under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). They ensure parents are informed and involved in decisions about their child’s education, including the right to participate in meetings, consent to services, access records, and resolve disputes.
Families receive a copy of these rights at least once a year and can request one at any time. To access a digital copy you may find them on the SELPA Procedural Safeguard Page
