Hello! My name is Carli Batchelor and I will be teaching Second Grade at DECS this year! I am originally from Livermore, California. I moved up to Sacramento ten years ago to attend Sac State, where I majored in Liberal Studies with a concentration in US History. I went on to receive my Multiple Subject Teaching credential at Sac State, as well.
Since I was a little girl, I knew I was going to be a teacher. Growing up, I would spend time in my grandmother’s classroom watching her teach, all the while thinking, “That is what I want to do!” From then on, any job I have ever had, has involved teaching children. Over the years, I have worked for various different schools, such as a Montessori, private, and both high and low income public schools. In the summer of 2008, I joined a Children’s Youth Service and traveled to Yokosuka, Japan. While there, I spent time with American children teaching them how to swim. It was truly an amazing experience. While in the Credential Program at Sac State, I taught in a second/third grade combination class, along with a Kindergarten class. I enjoyed every minute of my time spent in those classrooms and it only reinforced the fact that teaching is not only what I want to do, it is what I was meant to do. For the last four years, I have taught fifth grade at a private school in Folsom. It was there where I truly honed in and developed my skills as a teacher.
In my free time I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, watching movies, and going to baseball games! I have many passions, however, teaching is one of my greatest. I am beyond excited to be a part of the DECS team this year! It feels wonderful to be doing what I love, which is teaching!
